Uniting the Supply Chain: Made in the Midlands Expo Drives Regional Manufacturing Forward

Yesterday, the heartbeat of the UK’s industrial economy was unmistakable at the Pallet Track Bescot Stadium, Walsall FC. The highly anticipated Made in the Midlands Expo brought together an electric showcase of pure regional talent, surpassing expectations with over 40 cutting edge exhibitors and a phenomenal turnout of 400 industry leaders, buyers, and manufacturing professionals.

The core mission of the expo was clear: to eliminate the blind spots that often prevent local organisations from recognising the elite, game-changing suppliers operating right on their doorstep. As Jack Morris, Business Development Manager at STAUFF UK, reflected on the floor: "These events are always a fantastic opportunity to meet local businesses, build new relationships and network with people who share the same passion for British manufacturing and engineering... Always great to get out, meet new faces and see the strength of British manufacturing first hand!"

Across the hall, exhibitors showcased the depth and versatility of the region's industrial base. Walsall-based Albert Jagger Limited highlighted their local commitment, sharing: "Alongside 49 other exhibitors, we're proud to be showcasing what makes Britain great and celebrating the strength of manufacturing here in the Midlands... Based in Walsall ourselves, we're proud to be supporting other local businesses under one roof and celebrating the continued strength and support of the British manufacturing industry."

Visitors were able to get hands-on with world-class engineering capabilities. Commercial Marketing Manager Emma Hopkins from Amtico noted that it was "brilliant to see visitors getting hands-on with our mini bespoke Amtico coaster activity while having the chance to find out more about our manufacturing process," even presenting a custom-designed Made in the Midlands tile created by their in-house CAD and production teams to Jason and Ilona Pitt. Meanwhile, Simon Dunn, Managing Director at Pryor Marking Technology, observed strong engagement with advanced equipment, stating: "It was good to see our portable laser marking system attracting lots of interest... Well done team Pryor Marking Technology."

The bustling atmosphere was felt by companies across every sub-sector. BPL Engineering Group reported that their "stand was a hive of activity throughout the day, with lots of interesting conversations around engineering, manufacturing and the wider industry", while Grant Stain, CEO at Biam Digital, highlighted client Pre-Met Ltd's presence, adding: "There's lots to be positive about in British industry and pleased to see so many attendees think the same." Andy Neilson from Birmingham City University summed up the collective mood, describing the gathering as "an impressive showcase for market-leading companies in manufacturing and engineering" where "visitors... weren't simply there to fill tote bags with freebies - they were there to ask questions and do business."

Leadership presence at the event underscored its significance to the sector. Made in the Midlands CEO Jason Pitt and Ilona Pitt were in attendance, driving the vision of an unbreakable regional network. They were joined by Made in Group Chairman Lord Whitby, who personally welcomed guests to the stadium. Crucially, Lord Whitby spent the day on the exhibition floor actively listening to the pressing issues members are currently facing. Open conversations highlighted the severe skills shortages impacting production lines and the intense pressure on margins caused by rising operational and energy costs.

These candid discussions are exactly why the Made in the Midlands network exists not only to trade but to advocate. As Jacqueline Watkins from Workholding Solutions UK eloquently stated: "Events like today are about so much more than showcasing products and services. They're about building relationships, sharing knowledge, supporting British businesses and strengthening the future of UK manufacturing." The concerns raised yesterday by exhibitors and visitors will not stay in Walsall; they are being taken directly to the capital.

Following the overwhelming success of the expo, attention now turns to the culmination of the year’s advocacy and networking efforts: the Annual Westminster Visit and Christmas Celebration. Scheduled for Thursday, 5th December, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, this exclusive gathering will take place in the prestigious Cholmondeley Room and Terrace at the House of Lords.

This festive celebration offers members the opportunity to network with peers in a historic setting, enjoying a welcome drinks reception and premium food. Crucially, the Made in Group directors and Lord Whitby will deliver speeches providing updates on key organisational issues and outlining strategic plans for the future directly informed by the feedback gathered on the expo floor yesterday.

Yesterday’s expo proved that when local manufacturers get out of the office and collaborate, the future of UK manufacturing remains absolutely unstoppable. For those ready to continue this incredible momentum, secure your place for the Westminster reception. Members are welcome and highly encouraged to book their tickets and RSVP for the unofficial sessions directly through the "Sessions" tab on the member dashboard.
